694db5f549 Use 'is' in callable comparisons (#166624)
Just like we use `is/is not` for class comparisons, it is generally advised to use `is/is not` for comparisons against torch functions.

2a11ce2c78 Support calling torch.compile inside non-strict export (#164171)
So this fixes at least two issues:
1) When we are invoking inductor backend, we apply pre-grad passes which try to find correct fake mode to use. In the nested case, we will run into clash when there is closure variable in the inductor region because non-strict would have fakified this variable before hand and inner torch.compile would have created a new fresh fake mode. This is not a problem in regular torch.compile because inner torch.compile gets ignored. I don't know if we are supposed to inherit fake mode from parent context in this case. But we can avoid this problem if we just default to eager backend which is fine in this case because the point of export is to capture aten operators. Going to inductor would mean we will lose inner torch.compile ops.
2) There is custom torch function modes in export that track number of torch fns executed and inner compile itself doesn't work because of guard failure as this mode state gets changed. I noticed torch.cond fixes this problem by carefully stashing the torch function mode and defer it in the backend. So the correct thing to do here is just re-use torch.cond implementation unconditionally.

So the things i did for fixing above were:
1) Always default to eager backend when compile is invoked inside export. I needed to make how torch.cond sets up the fresh tracing env into an util that can be shared.
2) The previous eager backend for torch.cond was wrong because the context managers didn't actually persist until the backend is invoked.
3) torch.cond used only disable TorchFunctionMetadata tf mode and stash it for later, but in fact, we should do both TorchFunctionMetadata and PreDispatchTorchFunctionMode.

With above fixes, we are able to export flex attention in export.

c7515da7b0 Implement cuda graphs implementation of torch.cond and torch.while_loop (#140979)
This is a new PR for #130386 , which got stale and was closed. Since I force-pushed to that branch in order to rebase it on top of main, the PR can no longer be reopened, according to https://github.com/isaacs/github/issues/361

I fixed the possibly-not-warmed-up problem described here: https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/130386/files#r1690856534

Since starting this, torch.cond and torch.while_loop now apparently have support for backward passes. I will look into what it might take to support that.

e6a84be3d3 [PyTorch] Add backend aot_eager_decomp_partition_with_mode (#143250)
Summary:
## Why
To make it possible to run torch dispatch mode inside compiled modules. This is to enable running MemoryTrackerMode (in next diff) to collect memory usage of compiled modules.

## What
Add a backend aot_eager_decomp_partition_with_mode.
Add an enable_log to the backend to control the compilation logging (which can be very verbose and slow the run of mode)

Test Plan:
unittest

E2e tested in the next diff which shows the memory read from the mode passed to this backend is very close to the actual job's memory snapshot.

fe18a221eb Add debug backend that applies CrossRefFakeMode, use in compiler bisector (#138651)
I was debugging an internal ne divergence for a while that ended up being because of a bad meta. I added an explicit a config option and an explicit backend `aot_eager_decomp_partition_crossref` to enable the FakeCrossRefMode when running the graph. I added an explicit backend bc I suspect it will be useful for internal models but I'm also happy to leave as config option.

It will only test ops that have meta to avoid memory overhead of hitting fallback path and running in eager.

809ff3b274 Add host-side Triton TMA support to Dynamo (#137677)
This adds Dynamo tracing support for the host-side Triton TMA API (see `create_2d_tma_descriptor` calls on the host in the [Triton tutorial](https://triton-lang.org/main/getting-started/tutorials/09-persistent-matmul.html#sphx-glr-getting-started-tutorials-09-persistent-matmul-py)). A few notes:

- Here we assume the availability of the host-side TMA API added to upstream Triton in https://github.com/triton-lang/triton/pull/4498. As of time of writing, this is not a part of the PT2 OSS Triton pin (although back-ported internally). OSS Triton pin update should be done in December 2024.
- To capture the chain of calls `t.data_ptr() --> create_{1d,2d}_tma_descriptor(ptr, ...) --> kernel[grid](tma_desc, ...)`, we add three new variable trackers: `DataPtrVariable`, `CreateTMADescriptorVariable` (for the function), `TMADescriptorVariable` (for TMA descriptor object). This is to maintain the path back from the Triton kernel to the Tensor from which the TMA descriptor has been created.
- The newly introduced variables have `reconstruct` methods used in case of graph breaks.
- The `tma_descriptor_metadata` extracted from the captured `create_{1d,2d}_tma_descriptor` calls is propagated through the HOPs in Dynamo and AOTAutograd to be used by the downstream compiler (e.g., Inductor). See the unit tests for how the captured HOP arguments look like.
- In the Dynamo-captured fx graph, we replace the TMA descriptor arguments of the Triton kernel by the underlying Tensors, to be able to track the input/output relationships in terms of Tensors.
- In the Triton kernel mutation analysis pass (in AOTAutograd), we use the `tt.experimental_descriptor_store` TTIR op to detect mutations of the underlying tensors via TMA descriptors. So that downstream AOTAutograd can perform functionalizations as required.
- JIT Inductor and AOT Inductor support will be implemented in follow-up PRs.

8543000c27 Search through config changes in compiler bisector (#137346)
Follow up to https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/131936. In the original bisector you'd have to test inline if we were disabling a component - `if BisectionManager.disable_subsystem("inductor", "post_grad_passes", debug_info)`. This adds a convenient way of testing config changes for root causing issue. I've added `emulate_precision_casts` and aot_eager_decomp_partition cse as initial ones.

493478db4a [effects] Add inductor support for tokens (#122347)
Given the following code/dynamo graph:
```
class GraphModule(torch.nn.Module):
    def forward(self, L_x_ : torch.Tensor):
        l_x_ = L_x_
        _print = torch.ops.aten._print('moo')
        res = l_x_ + l_x_;  l_x_ = None
        _print_1 = torch.ops.aten._print('moo')
        return (res,)
```

AOTAutograd will trace the following program, threading tokens from the inputs, through the effectful operator calls (torch.ops.aten._print), and as an output:
```
class <lambda>(torch.nn.Module):
    def forward(self, arg0_1: "f32[0]", arg1_1: "f32[2, 3]"):
        with_effects = torch._higher_order_ops.effects.with_effects(arg0_1, torch.ops.aten._print.default, 'moo');  arg0_1 = None
        getitem: "f32[0]" = with_effects[0];  with_effects = None
        add: "f32[2, 3]" = torch.ops.aten.add.Tensor(arg1_1, arg1_1);  arg1_1 = None
        with_effects_1 = torch._higher_order_ops.effects.with_effects(getitem, torch.ops.aten._print.default, 'moo');  getitem = None
        getitem_2: "f32[0]" = with_effects_1[0];  with_effects_1 = None
        return (getitem_2, add)
```
However when we get to inductor, since we want the inductor generated code to not have any token inputs/outputs for better readability, we want to modify the aten graph by removing the tokens from inputs, and creating them through `torch.ops.aten._make_dep_token`, and sinking them through the `torch.ops.aten._sink_tokens` operators.
This has to be done *after* the partitioner, otherwise the partitioner will add the make_token/sink_token operators to the backwards graph.
```
class <lambda>(torch.nn.Module):
   def forward(self, arg1_1: "f32[2, 3]"):
       _make_dep_token_default: "f32[0]" = torch.ops.aten._make_dep_token.default()
       with_effects = torch._higher_order_ops.effects.with_effects(_make_dep_token_default, torch.ops.aten._print.default, 'moo');  _make_dep_token_default = None
       getitem: "f32[0]" = with_effects[0];  with_effects = None
       add: "f32[2, 3]" = torch.ops.aten.add.Tensor(arg1_1, arg1_1);  arg1_1 = None
       with_effects_1 = torch._higher_order_ops.effects.with_effects(getitem, torch.ops.aten._print.default, 'moo');  getitem = None
       getitem_2: "f32[0]" = with_effects_1[0];  with_effects_1 = None
       _sink_tokens_default = torch.ops.aten._sink_tokens.default((getitem_2,));  getitem_2 = None
       return (add,)
```
When doing inductor lowering, we convert `with_effects` calls to an `EffectfulKernel`, which just a `FallbackKernel` but with a pointer to previous effectful operator's call. During scheduling, we will create a `StarDep` between the EffectfulKernel and its previous EffectfulKernel so that they don't get reordered. The inductor generated python code looks like:
```
def call(args):
    arg1_1, = args
    args.clear()
    assert_size_stride(arg1_1, (2, 3), (3, 1))
    # Source Nodes: [_print], Original ATen: []
    buf2 = aten._print.default('moo')
    # Source Nodes: [_print_1], Original ATen: []
    buf3 = aten._print.default('moo')
    buf4 = empty_strided_cpu((2, 3), (3, 1), torch.float32)
    cpp_fused_add_0(arg1_1, buf4)
    del arg1_1
    return (buf4, )
```

d03173e88c Unify MYPYINDUCTOR and MYPY (#118432)
The original motivation for MYPYINDUCTOR was a faster type checking configuration that only checked a subset of files. With the removal of `follow_imports = ignore`, we are now able to use dmypy to do fast incremental typechecking, eliminating the need for this.

Perhaps erroneously, when I tee'ed up this PR I elected to delete the `follow_imports = skip` designations in the mypy-inductor.ini. This lead to a number of extra type error suppressions that I manually edited. You will need to review.

875f60399e pre_dispatch tracing: support autocast and no_grad/enable_grad ctx managers, add a pre_dispatch_eager dynamo backend (#103024)
This PR adds support for `enable_grad`/`no_grad`/`autocast` context managers getting properly traced in `pre_dispatch` tracing. The stuff in this PR includes:
- I added a torch function mode that runs during make_fx pre_dispatch tracing, `ProxyTorchFunctionMode`. It directly intercepts the torch ops that run during the above context managers, and adds them to the current graph instead of executing them
- `enable_grad` and `no_grad` currently desugar into `torch._C.set_grad_enabled(bool)`, but this API isn't currently overrideable by torch function so I added the ability to interpose there
- the `torch.amp` context managers don't currently have a nice equivalent, like `set_autocast_enabled(state)`, so I ended up adding two new API's: `torch.amp._set_autocast_enabled` and `torch.amp._set_autocast_disabled`. If you look at how the context manager is implemented, it ends up calling several different state-changing functions, some of which depend on the backend - so I figured that it would be cleaner just to add a new API (that should probably only be used by tracing) - but open to feedback
- I added a new dynamo backend, `compile(backend="pre_dispatch_eager")`. When pre_dispatch tracing becomes always-on in inductor, it will be another potential surface for bugs. I also added a test file for it (`test/dynamo/test_pre_dispatch.py`).

f9c64a1156 [debugging] aot_eager backend to use the min-cut partitioner (#103555)
default_partitioner is kind of broken when it comes to memory footprint. Moving aot_eager to use min-cut partitioner is better debugging experience.

One bad thing though would be that we will much lower speedup numbers, because min cut partitioner will try to recompute ops.

0a479d9b9c Simplify minifier testing by incorporating fault injection in prod code (#100357)
Previously, minifier testing injected faults by injecting extra code
into the repro scripts, and then ensuring this code got propagated to
all subsequent subprocess calls. This was not only quite complicated,
but also induced a big slowdown on the minifier, because to inject the
faults, you had to import torch._inductor, which would cause the
compilation threads to immediately get initialized before you even got
to do anything else in the repro script.

This new approach fixes this problem by incorporating the fault
injection into "prod" code. Essentially, for inductor fault injection
we introduce some new config flags that let you "configure" Inductor to
be buggy; for Dynamo fault injection we just permanently keep the buggy
testing backends registered. This is MUCH simpler: we only have to
propagate the buggy config (which is something we're already doing),
and it saves the minifier scripts from having to immediately initialize
inductor on entry.

Also, I enable the test for Triton runtime errors, now that tl.assert_device is here.

9834358e0f Get SchemaCheckMode to error on ops that return inputs directly. Expose as a dynamo backend, eager_debug (#99744)
Talked to @zou3519 and @ezyang on what the right UX is: tentatively, adding a new dynamo backend is cheap and simple, so it seems worth doing. And longer term, we agreed (?) that it's worth seeing if we can get custom ops sanity asserts to run more automatically, instead of needing a separate backend.

Side comment: that actually seems tough: the mode detects secret mutations by cloning every input to every op, running the op, and checking that the data matches between the real input and the cloned input. So I doubt we'll be able to make that behavior always-on? It would need some config at least.
