ca3f48dd5b [XPU] Set make triton install pre-built whl by default (#130313)
Now the user could install the pre-built `triton` for xpu by calling the following:

```Bash
export USE_XPU=1
make triton
```

[Dev Only]: If the user wishes to build it from the source, one could set an additional flag:

```Bash
export TRITON_XPU_BUILD_FROM_SOURCE=1
export USE_XPU=1
make triton
```

4fe6a5dc34 Move slow tests to be in repo (#132379)
Move the slow test json to be in the pytorch/pytorch repo and make a job that will update it weekly. The job uses the same environment as the commit hash. It uses similar code to the hash updates, but the hash update contains a lot of code that is specific to the hash update, so I chose to pick out the parts that are relevant

Remove references to the old file and set up testing to read from the new file instead

The old update cadence was every day, the new one is every week

The auto slow test infra + the lack of pinning between pytorch and test-infra makes it really hard to tell if a test started failing because of a change or because of the slow test json changing. While this can have benefits, like disable test issues being effective everywhere immediately, it can also be very confusing, especially since we don't have the same insight into slow tests like we do for disable issues.

Example PR made: https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/132383 (with all the changes from this PR because it was working on top of this)

We should just get rid of this at some point in favor of the slowTest decorator, but there are some tests that take 5+ minutes to run and I don't want to track them down right now

973037be6a [BE][Easy] apply autofix for ruff rules unnecessary-collection-call (C408): list() / tuple() / dict() (#130199)
This PR changes the empty collection factory call to Python literals:

- `list()` -> `[]`
- `tuple()` -> `()`
- `dict()` -> `{}`

The Python literals are more performant and safer. For example, the bytecode for building an empty dictionary:

```bash
$ python3 -m dis - <<EOS
import collections
d1 = {}
d2 = dict()
dict = collections.OrderedDict
d3 = dict()
EOS
```

```text
  0           0 RESUME                   0
  1           2 LOAD_CONST               0 (0)
              4 LOAD_CONST               1 (None)
              6 IMPORT_NAME              0 (collections)
              8 STORE_NAME               0 (collections)
  3          10 BUILD_MAP                0
             12 STORE_NAME               1 (d1)
  4          14 PUSH_NULL
             16 LOAD_NAME                2 (dict)
             18 CALL                     0
             26 STORE_NAME               3 (d2)
  6          28 LOAD_NAME                0 (collections)
             30 LOAD_ATTR                8 (OrderedDict)
             50 STORE_NAME               2 (dict)
  7          52 PUSH_NULL
             54 LOAD_NAME                2 (dict)
             56 CALL                     0
             64 STORE_NAME               5 (d3)
             66 RETURN_CONST             1 (None)
```

The dict literal `{}` only has one bytecode `BUILD_MAP`, while the factory call `dict()` has three `PUSH_NULL + LOAD_NAME + CALL`. Also, the factory call is not safe if users override the `dict` name in `locals` or `globals` (see the example of replacing with `OrderedDict` above).

9e1f3ecaa7 [BE][Easy] use pathlib.Path instead of dirname / ".." / pardir (#129374)
Changes by apply order:

1. Replace all `".."` and `os.pardir` usage with `os.path.dirname(...)`.
2. Replace nested `os.path.dirname(os.path.dirname(...))` call with `str(Path(...).parent.parent)`.
3. Reorder `.absolute()` ~/ `.resolve()`~ and `.parent`: always resolve the path first.

    `.parent{...}.absolute()` -> `.absolute().parent{...}`

4. Replace chained `.parent x N` with `.parents[${N - 1}]`: the code is easier to read (see 5.)

    `.parent.parent.parent.parent` -> `.parents[3]`

5. ~Replace `.parents[${N - 1}]` with `.parents[${N} - 1]`: the code is easier to read and does not introduce any runtime overhead.~

    ~`.parents[3]` -> `.parents[4 - 1]`~

6. ~Replace `.parents[2 - 1]` with `.parent.parent`: because the code is shorter and easier to read.~

d943357a21 [XPU] Add xpu support of make triton (#126513)
This PR is to add XPU support for `make triton`.

If a user wishes to use Triton with XPU support, the user needs to install the [intel-xpu-backend-for-triton](https://github.com/intel/intel-xpu-backend-for-triton).

This PR allows the user to easily install Triton for xpu backend support:

```
# clone the pytorch repo
export USE_XPU=1
make triton
```
The XPU version of triton will always be built from the source. It will cat the commit id from `.ci/docker/ci_commit_pins/triton-xpu.txt`, for example, `b8c64f64c18d8cac598b3adb355c21e7439c21de`.

So the final call would be like:

```
pip install --force-reinstall "git+https://github.com/intel/intel-xpu-backend-for-triton@b8c64f64c18d8cac598b3adb355c21e7439c21de#subdirectory=python"
c5fafe9f48 [BE]: TRY002 - Ban raising vanilla exceptions (#124570)
Adds a ruff lint rule to ban raising raw exceptions. Most of these should at the very least be runtime exception, value errors, type errors or some other errors. There are hundreds of instance of these bad exception types already in the codebase, so I have noqa'd most of them. Hopefully this error code will get commiters to rethink what exception type they should raise when they submit a PR.
I also encourage people to gradually go and fix all the existing noqas that have been added so they can be removed overtime and our exception typing can be improved.
debc3b3254 Download reports only if they're necessary (#119027)
Previously we were downloading all of (eager311, dynamo38, dynamo311).
Now we just download what's necessary. This is useful for
update_failures.py because the dynamo tests finish much faster than the
eager tests and it only needs the result from the dynamo tests.
a68cf3ef7d update_failures.py: add option to also remove "skipped" tests (#118931)
Previously, you could run update_failures.py (with a commit hash) and it
would add new expected failures and skips for newly failing tests and
remove expected failures for newly passing tests.
This PR teaches update_failures.py to also remove skips for tests that
are now passing without them.
The way we do this is:
- dynamo_test_failures.py doesn't actually skip tests -- it runs the
  test and then suppresses the signal.
- if the test actually passed, then the test gets skipped with a special
  skip message
- we teach update_failures.py to look for the presence of that skip
  message.
318e6ff40e Fix __name__ on a reconstructed NestedUserFunctionVariable (#118768)
```
def f():
    def g():
        return ()

    print(g.__name__)

f()
```
The following script should print `g` (with or without torch.compile),
but prints `f.<locals>.g` with torch.compile.
The problem looks like we use the co_qualname when reconstructing the
NestedUserFunctionVariable. I switched this over to use the co_name.
41dfd0e063 Update Dynamo passrate/histogram scripts (#118752)
Changelog:
- Don't count running PYTORCH_TEST_WITH_DYNAMO=1 on dynamo/ tests in the pass
rate. This was a bug (we were counting all of these as failing, but in
reality, most of these pass). The net effect is that the passrate is (artifically)
6% higher.
- Have the histogram script filter out skips based on the passrate metric.
2d37a046e7 [export] Enforce serialization BC/FC with updater script. (#118424)
Summary:
This diff implements a mechanism for safely update torch.export serialization schema, aka schema.py, which is the API surface having the strongest compatibility guarantee.
The diff is consist of 3 changes:
- Added a script to "build" or "materialize" schema.py into a platform neutral format (yaml), which serves as the committed form of the seialization schema.
- Added unittest to compare against schema.py and schema.yaml, so that it forces developers to execute the updater script when there is mismatch between two files.
- Added a checker inside the updater script, so that all the compatible change will result in a minor version bump, and all the incompatible changes will result in a major version bump.
torch.export's serialization BC/FC policy is (tentatively) documented here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EN7JrHbOPDhbpLDtiYG4_BPUs7PttpXlbZ27FuwKhxg/edit#heading=h.pup7ir8rqjhx , we will update the
As noted in the code doc, people should be able to run the following command to update schema properly from now on:
```
    python scripts/export/update_schema.py --prefix <path_to_torch_development_diretory>
or
    buck run caffe2:export_update_schema -- --prefix /data/users/$USER/fbsource/fbcode/caffe2/
```
Test Plan:
buck test mode/opt caffe2/test:test_export -- -r test_schema
buck run caffe2:update_export_schema -- --prefix /data/users/$USER/fbsource/fbcode/caffe2/
a699b10339 [buck2][win] fix caffe2 protobuf_rule (#115954)
Summary:
c2_protobuf_rule ([here](https://fburl.com/code/iyiulpmv)) is broken on buck2, ultimately due to the following error:
> .\./caffe2.proto: File does not reside within any path specified using --proto_path (or -I).  You must specify a --proto_path which encompasses this file.  Note that the proto_path must be an exact prefix of the .proto file names -- protoc is too dumb to figure out when two paths (e.g. absolute and relative) are equivalent (it's harder than you think).
The root cause is differences in how buck1 and buck2 handle `%SRCDIR%` (absolute versus relative paths). This diff fixes the build.
65afa760a6 Add a script to run iOS test app on AWS Device Farm (#110202)
This adds a script to test PyTorch on actual iOS devices on AWS Device Farm. The test could take quite a long time pending for the devices to become available, so the steps are done manually and documented in `ios/TestApp/README.md`.
### Testing
1. TestApp itself runs fine on my local iPhone 13 and on [device farm](https://us-west-2.console.aws.amazon.com/devicefarm/home#/mobile/projects/b531574a-fb82-40ae-b687-8f0b81341ae0/runs/d2653ca8-8ee2-44dd-b15e-0402f9ab0aca).  I can see the benchmark results output at the console log.
```
BUILD_LITE_INTERPRETER=1 USE_PYTORCH_METAL=1 USE_COREML_DELEGATE=1 IOS_PLATFORM=OS IOS_ARCH=arm64 ./scripts/build_ios.sh

pushd ios/TestApp/benchmark
ruby setup.rb --lite 1 -t 9HKVT38N77 --benchmark
popd

ruby scripts/xcode_build.rb -i build_ios/install -x ios/TestApp/TestApp.xcodeproj -p "OS"
```
2. Trying to run TestAppTests https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/blob/main/ios/TestApp/TestAppTests/TestLiteInterpreter.mm on my local iPhone ends up with this error `Logic Testing Unavailable. Logic Testing on iOS devices is not supported. You can run logic tests on the Simulator`.  I update the xcode project to reuse TestApp as the host application.
```
ruby setup.rb --lite 1 -t 9HKVT38N77
```
3.. Trying [another round of testing on device farm](https://us-west-2.console.aws.amazon.com/devicefarm/home#/mobile/projects/b531574a-fb82-40ae-b687-8f0b81341ae0/runs/18dbd69d-8608-46d8-a868-bd05b69375db)
Enables two ruff rules derived from pylint:
* PLR1722 replaces any exit() calls with sys.exit(). exit() is only designed to be used in repl contexts as may not always be imported by default. This always use the version in the sys module which is better
* PLW3301 replaces nested min / max calls with simplified versions (ie. `min(a, min(b, c))` => `min(a, b. c)`). The new version is more idiomatic and more efficient.
Should prevent regressions like the ones reported in  https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/issues/100104 from sneaking undetected.
Same for `install_triton_wheel.sh` - always use packages from https://download.pytorch.org/whl/
e2a3817dfd [BE] Enable C419 rule for any all shortcircuiting (#99890)
Apparently https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/78142 made torch.JIT allow for simple generator expressions which allows us to enable rules that replace unnecessary list comprehensions with generators in any/all. This was originally part of #99280 but I split it off into this PR so that it can be easily reverted should anything break.
### Summary
📝🧹🚩
<!--
1.  📝 for simplifying the `./scripts/onnx/test.sh` script
2.  🧹 for refactoring the `test/onnx/dynamo/test_exporter_api.py` file
3.  🚩 for adding the `--onnx` flag to `test/run_test.py` and updating the `TESTS` list
-->
This pull request improves the ONNX testing infrastructure in PyTorch by refactoring the test code, normalizing the scope names, adding a flag to run only the ONNX tests, and simplifying the test script.
> _To export PyTorch models to ONNX_
> _We refactored some scripts and contexts_
> _We used `common_utils`_
> _And normalized the scopes_
> _And added a flag to run the tests_
### Walkthrough
*  Simplify `./scripts/onnx/test.sh` to use `run_test.py` with `--onnx` flag instead of `pytest` ([link](https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/99215/files?diff=unified&w=0#diff-0017f5b22ae1329acb0f54af8d9811c9b6180a72dac70d7a5b89d7c23c958198L44-R46))
dcafe3f271 Updates to the release notes scripts and documentation (#94560)
# Summary
This PR made some significant changes to the scripts around Release Scripts. At a high level:
- Turned the quips into docs and updated links
- Update the common.categorizes list in the hopes to make this the source of truth for releases- This is hard since the release_notes labels can be changed at will. An alternative would be to poll from github api. However, I think that is overkill. The notebook does a set compare and will show you knew categories. I think we want this to be manual so that the release note engineer will decided how to categorize.
- Create cateogry group from speaking with folks on distributed and AO that told me these different release categories can be merged.
- I am the newest person to Core and don't use ghstack soo made token getting a lil more generic.
- Added a classifier.py file. This file will train a commit categorizer for you, hopefully with decent accuracy. I was able to achieve 75% accuracy. I drop the highest frequency class - "skip" since this creates a more useful cateogrizer.
- I updated the categorize.py script so that the prompt will be what the classifier thinks, gated by a flag.
- Added a readme that will hopefully help future release notes engineers.
a229b4526f [BE] Prefer dash over underscore in command-line options (#94505)
Preferring dash over underscore in command-line options. Add `--command-arg-name` to the argument parser. The old arguments with underscores `--command_arg_name` are kept for backward compatibility.
Both dashes and underscores are used in the PyTorch codebase. Some argument parsers only have dashes or only have underscores in arguments. For example, the `torchrun` utility for distributed training only accepts underscore arguments (e.g., `--master_port`). The dashes are more common in other command-line tools. And it looks to be the default choice in the Python standard library:
`argparse.BooleanOptionalAction`: 4a9dff0e5a/Lib/argparse.py (L893-L895)
```python
class BooleanOptionalAction(Action):
    def __init__(...):
            if option_string.startswith('--'):
                option_string = '--no-' + option_string[2:]
                _option_strings.append(option_string)
```
It adds `--no-argname`, not `--no_argname`. Also typing `_` need to press the shift or the caps-lock key than `-`.
634555d981 [ONNX] Auto test based on OpInfo (#86182)
This change introduces a mechanism to test onnx export based on sample inputs registered in OpInfo, similar to how MPS and other components of pytorch are tested. It provides test coverage on ops and dtypes previously unattainable with manually created test models. This is the best way for us to discover gaps in the exporter support, especially for ops with partial existing support.
This test is adapted from https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/blob/master/test/test_mps.py
This PR also
- Update sqrt to support integer inputs to match pytorch behavior
- Add pytest-subtests for unittest subtests support in the new test file
I only enabled very few ops: `t`, `ceil` and `sqrt` because otherwise too many things will fail due to (1) unsupported dtypes in the exporter (2) unimplemented dtype support in onnxruntime (3) unexpected input to verification.verify.
Subsequent PRs should improve `verification.verify` first for it to accept any legal input to a pytorch model, then incrementally fix the symbolic functions to enable more test cases.
36ac095ff8 Migrate PyTorch to C++17 (#85969)
With CUDA-10.2 gone we can finally do it!
This PR mostly contains build system related changes, invasive functional ones are to be followed.
Among many expected tweaks to the build system, here are few unexpected ones:
 - Force onnx_proto project to be updated to C++17 to avoid `duplicate symbols` error when compiled by gcc-7.5.0, as storage rule for `constexpr` changed in C++17, but gcc does not seem to follow it
 - Do not use `std::apply` on CUDA but rely on the built-in variant, as it results in test failures when CUDA runtime picks host rather than device function when `std::apply` is invoked from CUDA code.
 - `std::decay_t` -> `::std::decay_t` and `std::move`->`::std::move` as VC++ for some reason claims that `std` symbol is ambigious
 - Disable use of `std::aligned_alloc` on Android, as its `libc++` does not implement it.
ab75982d3a Always retry curl downloads (#89157)
Modify our curl commands so that they always retry downloads.
By default, curl only retries what it considers to be "transient" errors, based on the server's response. However, curl's estimate of what's transient is very conservative.  By adding the --retry-all-errors parameter we'll always retry curl commands.
In particular, I'm hoping this mitigates errors where curl fails with the below error ([logs](https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/actions/runs/3468758110/jobs/5794939941))
`curl: (35) OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to ossci-linux.s3.amazonaws.com:443`
Some of the modified downloads didn't even have retries, so I added them in
06868004b7 Remove codesigning from ios circleci workflows (#85630)
This PR is a follow up to https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/85597 which removes codesigning from our github action workflows. This is a synonymous change to our circleci workflows. Since we only run TestApp on simulator we don't need to have this codesigning logic. (And more pressingly, these dev cert is expiring at the end of the month and we don't have a replacement)
747f27a9ad [Mobile] Update build_mobile.sh to allow lite interpreter and tracing based builds (#84647)
Summary: Currently, build_mobile.sh doesn't allow lite interpreter builds or tracing based selective builds. build_mobile.sh is used for host builds of PyTorch for Mobile deployment.
Additionally, certain flags such as `USE_BLAS` were not being respected as they should be. This change addresses that as well.
Test Plan: Build using:
```
cat /tmp/selected_ops.yaml
- aten::add
- aten::sub
```
```
BUILD_PYTORCH_MOBILE_WITH_HOST_TOOLCHAIN=1 USE_LIGHTWEIGHT_DISPATCH=0 BUILD_LITE_INTERPRETER=1 SELECTED_OP_LIST=/tmp/selected_ops.yaml ./scripts/build_mobile.sh
```
```
cat /tmp/main.cpp

int main() {
  auto m = torch::jit::_load_for_mobile("/tmp/path_to_model.ptl");
  auto res = m.forward({});
  return 0;
}
```
Test using:
```
g++ /tmp/main.cpp -L build_mobile/lib/ -I build_mobile/install/include/ -lpthread -lc10 -ltorch_cpu -ltorch -lXNNPACK -lpytorch_qnnpack -lcpuinfo -lclog -lpthreadpool -lgloo -lkineto -lfmt -ldl -lc10
```
e0229d6517 Remove caffe2 mobile (#84338)
We're no longer building Caffe2 mobile as part of our CI, and it adds a lot of clutter to our make files. Any lingering internal dependencies will use the buck build and so wont be effected.
bf25a140f9 [ONNX] Add runtime type checking to export (#83673)
This PR adds an internal wrapper on the [beartype](https://github.com/beartype/beartype) library to perform runtime type checking in `torch.onnx`. It uses beartype when it is found in the environment and is reduced to a no-op when beartype is not found.
Setting the env var `TORCH_ONNX_EXPERIMENTAL_RUNTIME_TYPE_CHECK=ERRORS` will turn on the feature. setting `TORCH_ONNX_EXPERIMENTAL_RUNTIME_TYPE_CHECK=DISABLED` will disable all checks. When not set and `beartype` is installed, a warning message is emitted.
Now when users call an api with invalid arguments e.g.
```python
torch.onnx.export(conv, y, path, export_params=True, training=False)

# traning should take TrainingModel, not bool
```
they get
```

We see the error is caught right when the type mismatch happens, improving from what otherwise would become `AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'training'`

3c7044728b Enable Intel® VTune™ Profiler's Instrumentation and Tracing Technology APIs (ITT) to PyTorch (#63289)
More detailed description of benefits can be found at #41001. This is Intel's counterpart of NVidia’s NVTX (https://pytorch.org/docs/stable/autograd.html#torch.autograd.profiler.emit_nvtx).

ITT is a functionality for labeling trace data during application execution across different Intel tools.
For integrating Intel(R) VTune Profiler into Kineto, ITT needs to be integrated into PyTorch first. It works with both standalone VTune Profiler [(https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/tools/oneapi/vtune-profiler.html](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/tools/oneapi/vtune-profiler.html)) and Kineto-integrated VTune functionality in the future.
It works for both Intel CPU and Intel XPU devices.

Pitch
Add VTune Profiler's ITT API function calls to annotate PyTorch ops, as well as developer customized code scopes on CPU, like NVTX for NVidia GPU.

This PR rebases the code changes at https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/61335 to the latest master branch.

Usage example:
```
with torch.autograd.profiler.emit_itt():
    for i in range(10):
        torch.itt.range_push('step_{}'.format(i))
        model(input)
        torch.itt.range_pop()
```
