Rewrite of ATen code generator (#42629)
Summary: Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/42629 How to approach reviewing this diff: - The new codegen itself lives in `tools/codegen`. Start with `gen.py`, then read `model.py` and them the `api/` folder. The comments at the top of the files describe what is going on. The CLI interface of the new codegen is similar to the old one, but (1) it is no longer necessary to explicitly specify cwrap inputs (and now we will error if you do so) and (2) the default settings for source and install dir are much better; to the extent that if you run the codegen from the root source directory as just `python -m tools.codegen.gen`, something reasonable will happen. - The old codegen is (nearly) entirely deleted; every Python file in `aten/src/ATen` was deleted except for `common_with_cwrap.py`, which now permanently finds its home in `tools/shared/cwrap_common.py` (previously cmake copied the file there), and `code_template.py`, which now lives in `tools/codegen/code_template.py`. We remove the copying logic for `common_with_cwrap.py`. - All of the inputs to the old codegen are deleted. - Build rules now have to be adjusted to not refer to files that no longer exist, and to abide by the (slightly modified) CLI. - LegacyTHFunctions files have been generated and checked in. We expect these to be deleted as these final functions get ported to ATen. The deletion process is straightforward; just delete the functions of the ones you are porting. [jit] move private implementation out of jit/__init__.py (#40807)

This is one in a series of PRs intended to pull implementation out into separate files, and leave `__init__.py` as a place to register the public API. This PR moves all the tracing-related stuff out, and fixes other spots up as necessary. Followups will move other core APIs out. The desired end-state is that we conform to the relevant rules in [PEP 8](https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0008/#public-and-internal-interfaces). In particular: - Internal implementation goes in modules prefixed by `_`. - `__init__.py` exposes a public API from these private modules, and nothing more. - We set `__all__` appropriately to declare our public API. - All use of JIT-internal functionality outside the JIT are removed (in particular, ONNX is relying on a number internal APIs). Move all torch.nn.modules type annotations inline (#38211)
Summary: Pull Request resolved: https://github.com/pytorch/pytorch/pull/38211 Just because the annotations are inline doesn't mean the files type check; most of the newly annotated files have type errors and I added exclusions for them in mypy.ini. The payoff of moving all of these modules inline is I can delete the relevant code generation logic for the pyi files (which was added ignore annotations that weren't actually relevant anymore.) For the most part the translation was completely mechanical, but there were two hairy issues. First, I needed to work around a Python 3.6 and earlier bug where Generic has a nontrivial metaclass. This fix is in torch/jit/__init__.py. Second, module.py, we need to apply the same fix for avoiding contravariance checks that the pyi file used to have; this is done by declaring forward as a variable (rather than a function), which appears to be sufficient enough to get mypy to not contravariantly check input arguments. Because we aren't actually typechecking these modules in most cases, it is inevitable that some of these type annotations are wrong. I slavishly copied the old annotations from the pyi files unless there was an obvious correction I could make. These annotations will probably need fixing up later. Signed-off-by: Edward Z. Delete torch/__init__.pyi, deferring to direct extension stubs (#38157)

This is actually only supported on IntList. This means we can correctly generate a stub for dequantize. - Add missing manual stub for nonzero - Switched torch/onnx/operators.py to directly refer to _C module, since apparently mypy doesn't think that methods prefixed with underscores get reexported. This may be a recurring theme; maybe we need to find a better way to solve it. Because I was really lazy, I dumped namedtuple definitions in both `torch._C` and `torch._C._VariableFunctions`. Fix type annotations and make MyPy run on torch/ (#36584)
Summary: This PR fixes a couple of syntax errors in `torch/` that prevent MyPy from running, fixes simple type annotation errors (e.g. missing `from typing import List, Tuple, Optional`), and adds granular ignores for errors in particular modules as well as for missing typing in third party packages. As a result, running `mypy` in the root dir of the repo now runs on: - `torch/` - `aten/src/ATen/function_wrapper.py` (the only file already covered in CI) In CI this runs on GitHub Actions, job Lint, sub-job "quick-checks", task "MyPy typecheck". It should give (right now): `Success: no issues found in 329 source files`. Change output_declarations in function_wrapper.py to be a NamedTuple (#5312)
* Add python typing module as build dependency * Change output_declarations to be a NamedTuple * Add mypy configuration files mypy-files.txt includes a list of all files that should be typed checked with mypy. Run mypy with `mypy @mypyfiles.txt`. mypy.ini includes mypy options. Unfortunately this can't be merged with mypy-files.txt. Update .travis.yml so that one doesn't have to specify what files to type check inside it. * Add RuntimeError on missing `typing` module Alerts users to the new build dependency. |
